Shari’s Birth of David

When I learned that I had gotten gestational diabetes, I was devastated, but did what I needed to do to take care of myself and my baby! The good thing about getting gestational diabetes is that I was monitored more than I normally would have been.
The day my little David was born was the scariest, yet best day of my life! The day before, I had a HUGE meeting at work and was scheduled to have another HUGE meeting the day after, but I had my weekly stress test and almost rescheduled my appointment. Thank heavens, I didn’t! I’ll never forget my doctor talking to me in his office after my test and telling me very calmly that the baby's heart rate was very low and I needed to get to the hospital right away. I wasn’t dilated so he said that I was going to have a c-section that day.
Of course, I went to the doc alone because there had been no problems before, so I didn’t bring my husband along! I remember trying to call him at work and he didn’t answer my call. Then, I went to call my mom and was so scared that I couldn’t even remember her number! Then got the number from my brother and couldn’t get the words out without crying and freaking her out, so my doc got on the phone with her and told her what was happening. She, of course, was terrified and rushed over to the hospital. My brother was the one who was closest to the hospital, so he met me there and walked in with me! Finally, my mom made it and my husband was able to be reached.
So, next thing I knew I was getting my epidural and then shortly after that I got extremely hot and felt like I was having a panic attack and going to pass out. Thankfully, I didn’t, and then off to the operating room I went. Still scared at this point, but I was drugged up, so I was a little more relaxed. Wasn’t looking forward to having a c-section, but whatever it took to have my baby born healthy! Next thing I knew, my doc told me I was going to feel pressure on my stomach as he pushed the baby out and then WOO HOO, baby David was born! Thankfully, my doc didn’t waste any time, because David was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck! After the crazy day I had, my sweet baby David was born healthy and adorable! And the pain from the c-section wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, even when the meds wore off!
Not only was David born that day (Feb. 20th), but my brother's wife had taken a pregnancy test earlier that day and found out she was pregnant! He found out right before he met me at the hospital! It was a bittersweet day!
