Heather's Birth of Emerson Brooks
Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 8:12PM
Starting at 5:30 I was having some contractions. They were pretty regular for a whole hour (about 4-6 minutes apart) then went to about 8-9 minutes, then 10-11 minutes, then back to 4-6 and so on. They did this until 11 o clock. Regular, but not consistent. Then they stopped... I figured I'd go lay down and try and get some sleep. I fell asleep around 12. I had 3 strong contractions wake me up for the next couple hours, but I was able to fall back asleep... until 3:15.
12/28 (1 day overdue). At 3:15am I woke up with painful contractions. So I started timing... about 5-6 minutes apart and lasting upwards of 2 minutes!
I woke up Fiancee at 3:40 and he said to keep timing. I timed them until 4:10 and finally woke him up and said we need to leave. They got a little stronger and I had to breathe through them, but they weren't majorly strong. They weren't that bad.
We got everything ready and arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. I was first checked at about 6:15 and was a 6, 80% effaced and a -2 station.
It was right around 7:15 I asked for the epidural. I was trying for a natural delivery, but I had some super strong contractions and just knew it would be best for me to get it.
At 8:20 my dr came in and checked me again 6-7, 90% effaced and -1 station! He then broke my water!
It was 9 o clock when I felt the pressure (never felt this with my daughter so it was WEIRD). DF paged the nurse and she checked me... 10!!!!
I went from a 7-10 in about 40 minutes!!!
They wanted me to have a few more contractions and bring him down before I started pushing.
The nurse had me start pushing at 9:20, I pushed through 2 contractions (about 6 times) and then she paged for the dr. and a catcher! They arrived immediately and I started pushing... I kept feeling him get closer and closer and then knew he was RIGHT THERE. I pushed for about 5 minutes and about 6-7 times and he was born at 9:30am!!
Emerson Brooks born at 9:30am weighing 7lb 6oz (I guessed this number EXACTLY!) 19 3/4" long! He had a 13" head circumference.
I tore in 1 spot that needed 3 stitches, but other than that it went perfect! So much different than with DD where I pushed for 40 minutes.
So from Beginning of active labor until he was out, was just about 6 hours and 15 minutes! I had a lot of prep contractions there for a while though!
So glad it's over and we're home and doing good!!

Proud big sister!

Going home in the booties and hat I knit for him!

Danielle's Birth of Evie
Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 8:57PM Danielle's Birth of Evie
Evie arrived yesterday (Aug 2008) morning at 9:22 am weighing in at 8lbs 1oz, 20 inches long, and 14 inch head!
Friday I had been having contractions all day long 6-8 minutes apart (what's new?) but they started to get more and more painful. At around 5:30 pm we headed over to my mom's house to celebrate Amber and Vanessa's birthdays. The contractions kept coming through dinner and by 8 pm I wanted to do nothing but head home and lay down.
Around 10 pm something changed with the contractions and I couldn't get through them on my own anymore. Each one had me bawling and shaking like crazy. Shaun packed up the car, we stopped to pick up my mom, then we headed to the hospital. Contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart at this time. By 11:30 we were completely checked in and settled into our hospital room. I was shaking uncontrollably and really hoping that I was dilated to at least 5cm. But no, I had made NO progress from my midwife appointment on Wednesday. All the contractions I had been having since Wednesday night had done NOTHING. I knew then that a water birth was out the window and I was going for the epidural.
Baby and I were monitored for about an hour before getting checked again. We had only made about half a cm of progress but the doctor on call said we could stay and get the epidural. Yay! Before getting the epidural I needed to get a liter of fluid via an IV. It took 3 different nurses before the IV was successfully placed.
But then the wonderful epidural man arrived! He got it placed between contractions so that I didn't have to sit in an uncomfortable position while in pain. I thought I'd get some sleep once the epidural was placed but I was too excited and nervous. My mom and Shaun got a few hours of sleep each, though, while I listened to my Ipod.
At 7 am the doctor checked me again and I had only made it to 5 cm. He suggested breaking my water, and if that didn't work, start pitocin. I asked him to let me have a minute to think about it since I was feeling nervous about the pitocin. He left the room and my midwife showed up 15 minutes later (just started her shift). I told her we wanted to go ahead and break my water. She checked me and said "Wow! You might be ready to start pushing as soon as we break your water!"
I ended up being about 8 cm. I went from a 5 to an 8 in 15 minutes! Yay! She broke my water and within an hour I started pushing. One hour, 15 minutes after that...Evie was born!

Jessica's Birth Of A Daughter
Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:53PM i was on depo shots for 9 months before my fiance and i decided to start trying for a baby. every month we would take an at home pregnancy test only to see negative. this happened to us for 18 months and by the end i was ready to just give up when i started feeling uneasy so i bought a test. i waited 10 minutes and it came up "POSITIVE" i was so happy as was my partner. we went to the GP who did another test and told us " it says posiitive but its not a dark enought line so im going to say its negative" i was devistated. the next day i decided to get a second opinion and was told it was definetely a positive, my fiance nearly jumped out of his chair, it was the happiest day of out lives.
pregnancy went fine other then the constant pain of my sciatic nerve which forced me out of work when i was 5 months pregnant, by week 36 i was tire of being pregnant so i went to my appointment and was told i had pre-eclampsia. i was in and out of fetal- monitoring for the next 3 weeks. i wanted the baby to come soo bad but my grandmother was overseas and i wanted it to wait for her to come home, she came home and attended my next appointment with me when i was 39 weeks. i was told i would have to have the baby out within 48 hours. 2 days past and my cervix didnt want to dialate but finally it did.
i was induced the next day at 7 am and my waters were broken. i was force to have an epidural because of my condition and i slept most of the labour while my fiance and mum were sitting around waiting, 15 hours later it was time for me to start pushing, but the baby was just too comfortable so they took me to prepare me for a c-section, they gave me a much stronger epidural which made me sick all over my fiance. finally they told me they would try forcep and low and behold my little girl was born weighting 3.260kg/7lb 1oz and 53 cm long on 01/10/2010was the happiest day of our lives so far
Thank-you
