Lisa's Birth of Olivia
Friday, April 6, 2012 at 12:10PM then again, i might just sleep through the night and have her tomorrow... who knows?
at 850 he double checked that i wanted him to go.i still said yes. average labors are +10 hrs, and my cx's were just starting to get regular. i went back to bed to save up my energy.literally the next cx after he left, i felt an urge to push. i was mostly in denial and thought i just wasnt relaxing enough. i went ahead and texted the midwife that she should head back ('i think i need you now'). got crazy hot, so i went to kitchen (most air vents). called my sis, cause jacob had to go there to borrow their trailer. they were just about to leave, but she caught them (910am).jacob, sis and mom all got here 920ish. i told them id texted MW, but jacob wanted to know how far she still was. she hadnt heard the text come through! she said shed come asap, jacob told her i was starting to push on my own.got up in bed, draped upper body over a bean bag chair, on knees. moaned and sort of pushed through a few cx's. did not get more space between the pushing cx's, they stayed very very close, sometimes overlapping. during one in particular, i felt her head come way down. i made some new noise and i remember that my mom and sis both made a reactive noise, though i couldnt tell you what the noise was now, lol.a push or two later jacob said he could see the head. the women oohed and aahed, which amused me. next cx i felt her head, and it was a lot squishier than id imagined. next push i was crowning. all i could think was 'rebeccas supposed to be here to keep me from tearing up again' as i had with sara. then i thought, if shes already this far, theres a chance her cord might be compressed, so i gave it all i had. i pushed through the whole cx and then after it ended, getting her whole head out. i should have asked them to get a pic of her head, but i didnt know if the camera was handy and i wasnt letting jacob leave to find it. did get a slight break between cxs and then it was on to the shoulders. oh, and one of her little hands were up by her chin. i think there were 2 pushes, maybe 3 and then that wonderful feeling of emptiness (10:10am) because of my position, i had to flip around so i could finally see her. tons of vernix since she was a week early. more hair than sara had, and more even, as well. sara had a little mullet thing going on with a thick lock at the back and then just a soft covering on the rest of her head. about 8-10 minutes later most of the placenta came, but not quite all. we didnt want to break anything, so we left it. probably 5 minutes later rebecca made it and finished delivering the placenta. she said 'oh my goodness' as she checked it all out. there was a giant blood clot inside that was a touch bigger than the placenta itself. she said it was the largest she'd ever seen, and for me to not get out of bed all day, maybe longer. she also said it was a good thing that it had coagulated, cause that much runny blood would have freaked everyone out. everything on olivia checked out well. she had a tiny little mouth, which isnt terribly conducive to my giant nipples (any tips of getting them to open REALLY wide?? i'll take them!)she weighed 9lbs 3oz, was 21.5 inches long, 36cm head (sara was 7-11, 20.75, 35cm). she's not as into breastfeeding as sara was, which is a little disappointing. then again, i already have sore spots on both sides, so maybe her taking her time is ok. she only woke 3 times during the night, which is also quite different from sara. i also tried to start the habit of putting her back in the sidecar, so when my uterus wasnt contracting back down, i slept fairly well.
so i never planned an unassisted homebirth, but it turned out alright. still cant believe i was fully dilated and thought i might have hours to go.. lol. jacob hung out for a while, then took my dad to columbus to get the restaurant equipment while the women and children stayed behind. sara is thrilled with olivia, but tired of her cousins. might be a little displacement being put on them, as well, since i couldnt do all of the things she wanted. she was pretty sad that i couldnt help put her to bed last night, but once jacob reminded her of all of the blood and that rebecca told me to stay in bed, she was alright. we just read one story in our bed to her and olivia, then jacob read another story in her room for just her. that seemed to go well. so that's how my morning went.. i was half passed out/sleeping most of the day. feeling a little more energy today. course, when i say i have more energy, what i mean is that when i got up to use the adult plastic potty that is a foot from my bed, i didnt quite lose my vision when i got all dizzy, and my ears didnt ring at all. i barely had any hot flashes, and when i flopped down on the bed, i only had to hold still for about a minute, not five. but hey, its an improvement!
fund out from rebecca that not only did i lose about 6 cups of blood in the clot, but that the average is 1/2 a cup! no wonder i look like a vampire! still have gotten dizzy twice today (been up 4 hours), but ive also been moving around, made my own food for the first time, spent the morning with just my girls. waiting on one more check up from rebecca. she'll be here soonish.

First nursing....

I sat down for a tea party after my water broke becauseI figured it may be awhile before we had another chance.
