Today's featured birth story
The quick entrance of Theodore:
Theodore was due February 2, but that day had come and gone by a week. The Friday before he was born (he was born on Tuesday), I had an appointment with my midwife. I was 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. Wow, considering that the week before I was not even close to having him.
The night of February 15 at 10:45 p.m., I started to have some serious gas pain. I was not concerned because I had been experiencing this for a while, just not this bad. Within fifteen minutes, it got a lot worse. Mark was in bed and started to time them at 11:00 p.m. By midnight, Mark decided to call the midwife because the pains were getting regular and they were about ten minutes apart. She said to try to relax (like that was happening!) and to take a warm bath. We tried the bath and it helped a little. By 12:30 a.m. my contractions were about five to six minutes apart. Mark called the midwife again and she said to head over to the birth cottage. It was a 30-minute drive from where we lived. We left the house around 1:00 a.m. got there at around 1:30 a.m. The ride there was awful. Believe me; being in labor in the car is not fun! We were the first ones there so we had to wait. Also not fun!
One of the nurses got there first and helped me into the cottage. I was already having the urge to push on the way in. We got into the building and into our room. We were the only ones there so it was quiet. The nurse started a bath for me while we waited for the midwife to show up. She got there about 2:00 a.m. I was 8cm dilated and fully effaced. I got in the tub and was having regular pushing sensations so the midwife checked me and I was completely dilated. Wow, within minutes!
After about 45 minutes of pushing, Theodore was born at 4:02 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16.
