Today's featured birth Story:
**She isn't superstitious but she didn't want her baby born on June 6th at 6:00am**
666
I woke up the morning of June 5, (THE due date) wondering if today would be the day. I got out of bed and felt a trickle of liquid run down my leg... no, I didn't pee my pants. For the next 2 hours, fluid continued to trickle out, but no big "gush" of water like we're all told happens when your water breaks. I called the doctor's office and the receptionist told me to time my contractions and when they're five minutes apart, go to the hospital. First, I told her, I'm not having any contractions; second, what about all this water. She went to check with the nurse and came back with the same story... when I start to have contractions, then time them, blah, blah, blah. I called my husband and he came home immediately even though I wasn't having contractions and my water didn't completely break. Every time I moved even a little, more water... I eventually put a towel between my legs. Gross, I know... but effective. I finally thought, this could not be right and called the doctor's office again. It was after five o'clock and the office was closed so the doctor on call was paged. He called back immediately, making sure I wasn't just peeing my pants. I think I'd know the difference, duh! He said it was time to come in and have a baby.
We arrived about 5:30 p.m., got settled into the room, and the doctor came in. After he calmed down because of the bogus advice his receptionist gave me (I should have come in immediately apparently), he said our baby would probably be born around sunrise. "Around 6:00 a.m.?" I questioned. He said, “Yes.” I began to tell him that while on maternity leave I was watching a bit of the movie "The Omen." The little boy in the movie was born on June 6, at 6:00 a.m....666. I'm not a superstitious person, but still... I didn't like the idea. First he scolded me for watching “The Omen” while pregnant. Then basically said it all depends on the baby.
Pitocin was started, as I still hadn't had a contraction. Once they did start, in went the epidural (ahhhh!) and antibiotics around 3:00 a.m. because my water had been ruptured since 9:00 a.m. the previous morning and there was a possibility of infection. I was able to sleep some because I really couldn't feel a thing.
We started pushing around 5:00 a.m. on June 6. Six o'clock was fast approaching. The doctor came in at 5:50 a,m.... and out popped Hailey McKenna at 5:58 a.m. She was the most beautiful baby I'd ever seen. I got to hold her immediately. My husband and I just cried, while our beautiful angel stared up at us.
