Zoe's Birth of Twin Daughters
Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 3:13PM Zoe's Birth of Twin Daughters
My Birth of Twin Girls!!!! Jan. 11th, 2012 Firstly, we found out we were pregnant in May 2011....I calculated my own due date of Jan 24th and ended up that's the day the Dr's picked too. Haha I was stoked to be right. :P
I didn't make it to the Dr until 14 weeks along, because we were, at the time, traveling cross country (and the 6 months previous to finding out we were pregnant..) My first appointment, I guess my hormone levels were really high because my Dr. said let's do an ultrasound next week. I was 15 1/2 weeks when we had our first ultrasound and our Dr says, "Oh my God, there are two" He practically whispered it lol, so I said, "What??" and my fiancé Robby, says, "Really?!" My Dr smiled and said yes again, and my jaw dropped...lol it stayed dropped, me in silence til the ultrasound was over. Robby had his 9 yr old son there that day, and they were both just smiling and laughing. You could certainly clearly see two babies.
I had an AMAZING pregnancy. I was scared we would have all these complications that sometimes and commonly come w/ multiple pregnancy, but we had none! We are SO lucky. I could not have asked for a better pregnancy. Okay, so 38 weeks and 1 day later ..... My last Dr appt was Monday Jan. 9th, Dr says I'm 2 cm dilated and if I don't go into labor naturally before, to come in Wednesday morning to the hospital to get induced. :D So Wednesday Jan. 11th at 7:30 am we arrived to the hospital.
Excited, SO excited! We brought all our stuff, and I got gowned up and strapped to the monitors for about 2 hours. At about 10:30 am my Dr came and checked me I was 2-3 cm so he said start pitocin. My nurse hooked it up, and then they brought me a big lunch at 12! I was so surprised I thought you couldn't eat while in labor...they also gave me a big huge cup of water I was so grateful, I felt strong and ready to do this, because they let me eat and drink. So we sat around waiting for contractions to start, we watched 3 tv shows, and two movies lol before I got uncomfortable at all.
I saw my contractions getting stronger & closer together on the monitor but for a long time they felt like the braxton hicks I had gotten so used to for the past 5 months.. I was updating on Facebook & texting people this whole time...My Dr. checked me at 4pm and I was a 4....I was a little disappointed I wasn't further along but not surprised since I was feeling like no pain yet... Finally at about 5:00pm they all the sudden started to hurt. I was breathing through them w/ Robby now... the nurse asked if I wanted pain meds, I said no....she asked me again in 30 minutes, I said I don't know, so she gave me nubane (spelling?) in my IV at about 6pm it took the edge off for about 20 minutes, so then my Dr came in to check me and said I was a 7! I was so surprised! :D
Things suddenly were getting really intense. I almost gave in and asked for an epidural at this point, the contractions were right on top of one another, lasting about 1-2 min and only like 1 min apart... maybe two, but didn't feel to me as if I had that long of a break in between. :P My Dr checked me again at about 7pm maybe a bit before, and said, "Are you ready to push?" I was almost thrown off and confused by the question lol, my brain was getting a bit hazy w/ the pain.... they were starting to move my bed, I saw two more nurses come in... My Dr said if you want to push, go ahead....I was like "No, I don't think I'm ready" Not thinking I could be dilated all the way yet. My nurse asked him, "Is she ready?" He said " Yup she's a 10" I was just looking back and forth between them trying to comprehend I was about to go push my babies out. They started to wheel my bed down to the OR ....I delivered in the OR just because I had twins in case of emergency.
It took me 15 minutes to push out baby A.....after she was out I lost the urge to push, but only for like 3 minutes tops, then it was back and I was pushing baby B out..... I almost wanted to give up after the first baby came out though, lol. I thought for a moment, I'm done now right? I pushed a baby out...I'm supposed to be done! Haha :P (Oh yeah! Right after baby A came out my stomach growled LOL, I thought it was the funnies thing, not to mention that I even noticed! I said something about it too, and everyone laughed... ) Then I shook myself and said I HAVE to push her sister out!
The Dr had to use a suction cup thing, to get baby B out....apparently when he broke her water a lot of blood came flowing out and it freaked him out because he didn't know if it was mine or coming from something else... Thank Goodness I did NOT know any of this happened until afterwords!!! So he got her out as quickly as he could, it took me another 15 minutes to push her out. Robby cut each of the cords as the babies came out and were placed on my stomach. It was the most wonderful experience I've ever had. Robby was my rock and the best coach ever. He did wonderfully! He was cheering me on, at one point even softly chanting "Zoe!, Zoe! " Hehehe. <3
The nurse that was there the entire 12 hours with us was also an AMAZING co-coach and kept me going right along with Robby. Thank you eternally to her. <3 10 minutes after babies, both placentas came right on out. I had NO tears! Everything was PERFECT. :D I was so happy and astonished that I just pushed TWO babies out with no pain meds!! I was instantly in love with our baby girls.
Evelyn Matilda Summer (baby A) was born first at 7:24 pm weighing 5 lbs 13 oz and 18 1/4 inches long. Coraline Luna Rae (baby B) was born second 15 minutes after her sister, at 7:39 pm weighing 5 lbs 15 oz and 18 inches long! They both had HAIR! I thought for sure they'd be bald lol I don't know why! It was golden blonde at first then turned darker, but now is starting to lighten up again ^.^ I had a wonderful experience, through out my pregnancy, labor and birth of our twin girls, I could not of asked for it to be any more perfect. I am very lucky. We are lucky to have two beautiful healthy babies! We took them home 2 days later. They are now 3 weeks old. <3
