Amy's Birth of Matiu

Birth Story of Matiu Patrick  <3

My due date for the birth of our 7th baby was 20th May and that came and went like I knew it would. My MW came over on Wednesday the 23rd to do a S&S and talk about an induction on the 29th May, 9 days past my DD. The S&S was rather uncomfortable as my cervix was high but soft, stretchy and I was already 2cm. She had to push bubs head down as she was doing it as he wasn't quite low enough to put enough pressure on my cervix to get anything started. He was also laying on his right side but head down, kind of like a possum curled up, so the mw moved him around a little to try get him to move into position.... Nothing happened.... On Friday 25th my MW came back to do another S&S and confirmed our booking for induction on the 29th May at 6am. This time bub had moved into a better position and the MW did a rather rough S&S as she really wanted me to labour myself, and in her words if this doesn't work there's something wrong with you! lol.....

On Saturday hubby let me sleep in (which is the first time in I don't know how long) as he knew how tired Id been feeling the past few days. When I got up I had the biggest plug show ever I literally had to pull it out as it wouldn't wipe out, I knew labour might be soon but I didn't want to say anything in case I was wrong. We went to our 7 yr olds football game, and I had a lot more shows during the day, but felt fine, no contractions or anything.

At 6:30pm I was on the computer and DH was talking to me when...BAM... I had a contraction which made my eyes water. The look on my face told it all and hubby started getting excited and freaking out all at the same time. From the very start my contractions were coming every 4-5 min lasting up to 1min long. I rang my MW at 7:30 pm and told her, but we decided to stay home for now and Id get something to eat etc and call her back at 9:30. I called her back and we decided to meet at the hospital at 11:30 as they were now coming 3-4min apart and lasting 1min but still able to handle them. I rang my Student MW and told her to meet us at the hospital and also our Photographer who came straight over to the house.

We got to the hospital and I made hubby park in the car park so I could walk which was funny cause the security guard kept offering to drive me as I was contracting walking from the car park. When we got into the room, which was the same room I had given birth to Rawiri our 2yr old in, the MW checked me at 12am and I was 5cm. I stripped off and got in the shower, rocking on the swiss ball. I asked her to break my water at 1:30ish which she did and I had progressed to 7cm. I assumed my position back in the shower on the ball. I could feel him working his way down so I got on my knee's leaning over the ball labouring. At 3:30 am I had a MASSIVE contraction and BAM one push and he was out at 3:31am! No stitches required. Lucky the MW was there and she literally caught him lol. She was prepared though she said she could hear it in my tone he was on his way soon, even though I had no idea at the beginning of the contraction he'd be born then. He was born in the shower while on my knees, the exact same spot and position as his big brother was born in nearly 2yrs earlier and by the same MW aswell.

Matiu was born Sunday 27th May, 50cm long, HC 35cm and 3.318kg or 7lb 5oz. Natural drug free labour and delivery. He found the boob by himself as well soon after birth and has been a great feeder ever since. It was a wonderful labour and delivery and I never noticed as I was in my own zone at the time, until our photographer showed us the photos and slideshow of the birth,  that my wonderful husband never left my side the whole time, and even though this was our 7th child, the emotions and instant love for your baby is exactly the same as the first. <3
